What Diabetes Nutrition Counseling Looks Like

Your first visit is a comprehensive 75-minute assessment. We review your current eating habits, blood sugar patterns, lab results (A1C, fasting glucose, cholesterol), medications, and lifestyle. From there, we build a personalized nutrition plan that fits your real life — not a generic handout.

Follow-up visits (60 minutes) help you troubleshoot, adjust your plan, and stay on track. Most patients see meaningful improvements in A1C and energy within 8–12 weeks of consistent nutrition support.

Insurance Coverage for Diabetes Nutrition

Diabetes nutrition counseling is one of the most commonly covered dietitian services. Medicare requires a physician referral with a diagnosis of E11 or greater. Most commercial plans — Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Ambetter, BCBS, and others — cover Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) for diabetes.
